Question 126 XL Movement, Serial Number & Run

I have my first Bell & Ross (and one of the first post-1970s watches to add to my collection - I'm a vintage guy, so of course I had to start with the Vintage series). It's a 126 XL chrono with a brown dial (enlarged 12 and 6, other numbers slightly smaller) and 60 - 500 kmh tachymetre.

Anyway, I'm curious about the movement. Everything I see points to it being a modified ETA, but which movement? It has 45 jewels and I can't find reference to that anywhere on the B&R site or on collector's sites. What is it inside?

Also, is the number after XL (in my case S00353) a serial number or a production count or something else?
Is the serial number on the movement, or does B&R have case and movement numbers? Any way to assign a date to it?

Last question: Has the production run ever been published? Just curious how many of these are out there.

    Thanks!

Hi Wcs2, congrats on your purchase and welcome to the BROG!
I'm pretty sure the movement on 126xl is a ETA2894.
Indeed, 353 is the serial number of your watch.
B&R certainly have a production date, related to this serial number.
Don't you have a purchase date, on warranty card ?? But I agree purchase date and production date may be different.

Thanks! I appreciate the welcome and the help.

I acquired this as part of a sale and trade with a vintage store I deal with a lot and it didn't come with box or papers. As a vintage guy, that never surprises me, or really bothers me. It does, though, mean that I have to try to figure out all the details.

Do you know if this model with the brown dial was a limited run? I can dig them up here and there on watch collecting sites, but they seem to be much less frequent than the beige and black dials.

Perhaps a limited production, but no limited edition..
The only LTD 126xl I know is the "Habana", 99 pieces.
