    Professional Type Marine Authenticity

Hi all. This is my first post in these forums I have just acquired a pre-owned Professional Type Marine. I purchased it from "that one" auction site and the seller had good feedback--in fact, I even spoke with him on the phone. However, he did not know much about the history of the watch and told me he bought it from someone else. It came with what appear to be the original box, manual and a warranty card. Though the warranty card was not filled out, it was stamped "The Time Zone". I've owned many Sinns and it seems of similar quality--especially the bracelet which is nearly identical in design to many such Sinn bracelets I've had (though this one uses pins rather than screws) which is no coincidence, obviously. It seems to have a sapphire crystal per my "water drop" test.

My only concerns, if you can even call them that, are 1) the "S" in the serial number seems larger than the remaining numerical characters, though this may just be a product of how the serial number is engraved on the caseback; 2) the "Bell & Ross" on the signed clasp is a bit off-center; and 3) the AR coating seems somewhat weak compared to any Sinn I've owned. I've called B&R and they referred me to their service center, which I e-mailed at their suggestion but I haven't heard anything yet. Out of curiosity, do you think a local B&R AD could verify authenticity? I'm not sure if a fake/replica would use the same movement since it is a rather inexpensive ETA quartz. Anyway, here are the pics and any thoughts are much appreciated:

I really like the BR02 SS, but fear it is too big for my little wrist. I was very close to buying a BR126 Original Black at an AD, but the lug to lug was too long!

    Professional Type Marine Authenticity

Looks legit to me. The big ampersand is kinda hard to engrave correctly on fake watches.
Plus I think I have never seen fake type marine.

Enjoy it and keep your steel bracelet safely, they are discontinued and BR has none in stock.

Thanks, Gudzyy! Actually, I have an OEM rubber strap and clasp on order and will swap out the bracelet (at least for the Winter) when they arrive. It's a shame they don't still manufacture the bracelet. I wish that B&R or someone made a compatible leather strap.

I'm 99% sure this model was never faked. It was released too early in B&Rs history before they became popular for the Chinese to start making replicas (to my knowledge, almost no B&Rs were faked prior to the 01-92 release). I wouldn't worry about the engravings on the case back or buckle. I've seen a lot of older B&Rs whose bracelets weren't engraved too well.

As far as the AR coating, Sinn is known for putting AR on both sides of the sapphire, but in general B&R only coats the inside. This model was created after B&R separate from Sinn, so even though they're using a legacy Sinn case, they likely used the inside only AR coating. (This is a personal preference for most people - I like the way B&R does it since outer AR coating scratches/wears easily and can make it look like the actual sapphire has a scratch).

    Hope that helps.
