New BR 03-92 Radar Owner - How To Change Strap Without Scratching Coating

    Hello.

First post. First time owner of a BR 03-92 Radar. It comes with an attached rubber strap. I would like to change it to the nylon strap that also comes with it. I do not want to scratch the carbon coating. How do I gently and safely change the strap with the enclosed tools but make sure I do not scratch the coating or even the holes where the tools go? Any thoughts or help is appreciated. Thank you!

you can be as gentle and careful as you can but even just turning the hex screw will result in light scratching. Gives the watch a bit of history really. You can always buy replacement hex screws from your local AD if need.

Photos of your radar will be great too.

    Welcome to the club BRo.

XrayHiro...Thanks. You mention replacement hex screws from my local AD. What is my local AD? Is it a watch maker store or local home improvement store?

I did get it at the Authorized BR dealer in Farmington Hills, Michigan...Basically Detroit. I was going to order a spare set of tubes and allen screws. The Boutique has a variety of versions i.e. steel, titanium, carbon, and ceramic. For my BR 03-92...which set should I get? I am thinking steel or carbon? Maybe carbon if they are black screws. Thoughts? Thanks. Posting pics later.

I love the BR-X1 Carbone Forge but could never afford the $23,000 list price. If I were really rich, I'd have that one too. Damn that's a beautiful watch.

You'll be looking for the hex carbon 03 screws. 01 and 03 have different screws, even though the hex head are the same, the screw itself different in size and length. All radar are in PVD/Black in short, hence unless you want to be different and match it with steel/silver hex screws, you will need the carbon/back screws, which is what the watch comes with.

I don't believe you need replacement tubes, unless you've bent them. Some 01 comes with tubes with a fixed screw at one end, hence if your going to replace the screw you'll need to get a new set of tube and screw, but if i remember correctly, 03's comes with lose screws and tubes.

Good luck, the screws costs me peanuts. There are after market screws but i'm an OEM boy through and through. At least in that way you know it will fit and work as per manufacture standards.

Forgot to mention that is the US..unlike AUS (Even though we have an official boutique) you have access to E-boutique, which will be just a quick order and a hello at your front door.

But i'm sure your local AD will have it in stock.

Strap question....I put on a nylon strap. I did not know exactly how to put it on but made an educated guess. Is this correct from what you can tell? Thanks!IMG_4868.jpgIMG_4869.jpg

Welcome Miggwilson! I am a fellow Detroiter - I haven't been to the AD in Farmington - I have purchased my new pieces from Lewis Jewelers in Ann Arbor. Very nice radar! Also - as an aftermarket option, I would recommend BandRbands.com for tubs and screws. I have purchased replacements from them and thought they were great. Honestly, they seem to hold up a bit better than the OEM. Also an excellent place for aftermarket straps!

Work slow. Be deliberate, and be careful not to overtighten the hex heads. Some dudes rip the heads off the thru bolts by applying too much force.

    CONGRATS and welcome!!

I also turn my screw in the opposite direction, just lightly, until I can feel the threads click, then I change direction and tighten. I do the same things on screw-down crowns. This helps avoid the possible mis-alignment error of damaging the threads while tightening. A little OCD goes a long way with owning watches

Edit: On wearing velcro strap- make sure to press down the flap a few times, make sure all the little velcro hooks have a good grab. I try to not excessively put on and tear off my velcro to extend the life of it. I love the look of the velcro, but I make it a point to press on it to make sure it's secure throughout the day. Again, this is somewhat OCD but it keeps the watch nice.
